04/03/05 - Crime continues to strike in well guarded commercial areas of Escazu Costa Rica. Paco Plaza, often seen as a safe spot, has seen a rash of car break-ins. Do not leave valuables in your car and remember to take your radio face plate. The sense of security you feel in well guarded areas is unfounded - OIJ insiders indicate that guards are often participants in the crimes.
Recent operations by the OIJ, the judicial police, in Escazu central have targeted a number of dangerous criminals. These persons are known violent offenders. ALWAYS walk in groups if you are visiting central Escazu, night time excursions should be avoided.
